Help and common questions

Quick answers about the courses, certificates and memberships.

Are the courses free?

Security Officer Basics and CPR Awareness are free: every lesson, the quiz and the certificate of completion, with no sign-up. The other courses come with membership, $9.99 a month or $89.99 a year.

Do I need an account?

Not for the free courses. Membership courses need an account so we can check your membership.

Is the certificate accredited or state-approved?

No. It shows you completed an online informational course and passed its quiz. It is not a license, a state-approved training course or an accredited credential.

Can I use the certificate for a job?

You can show it to employers as proof you took the time to learn. It does not replace the training and licensing your state requires, or a hands-on CPR class where a job requires one.

Is CPR Awareness a CPR certification?

No. It explains the steps. Jobs that require CPR certification want a hands-on class with a skills check, such as those from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Does the certificate expire?

It has no expiry date. It shows the date you completed the course. Guidelines and laws change, so retake a course now and then to stay current.

How do I put my name on the certificate?

After you pass the quiz, type your name in the box above the download button. Your name stays on your device; we don't collect it.

Can I add it to LinkedIn?

Yes. After you pass, the Add to LinkedIn profile button opens LinkedIn's form with the course, issuer and certificate ID filled in.

Do you offer wallet cards?

No. The certificate is a PDF you can print or save.

How do I retake a quiz?

Open the quiz again. You can retake it as often as you like, and each attempt draws a new set of questions.

Where is my progress saved?

In the browser you use. If you switch devices or clear your browser data, your progress starts over, so download your certificate when you pass.

A video won't play.

Videos play from YouTube. Some work and school networks block YouTube: try another network or device. The lesson text covers the same material.

How do I get licensed in my state?

Use the U.S. Department of Labor's License Finder: search "security guard" and choose your state. Members also get our Licensing by state list on the Resources page, with each state's agency, license type and official link.

How do I cancel my membership?

From your account page, any time. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for, and you won't be charged again.

How do I contact you?

Email [email protected].
